As Ash Wednesday approaches we will again be urged to ‘turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ’. Through reflection (both together and in silence) we will remind ourselves that our faithfulness is a pale imitation of God’s faithfulness to us. Any for whom this would be a first ‘Quiet Day’ would be particularly welcome.

8 Days That Changed the World!
We follow Jesus from his triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through the Last Supper, the night of betrayal and trial and onto the Cross. We share with him the agony of those hours hanging for our sins and his compassion for those around him. We end our day with a joyous Eucharist as we celebrate his resurrection.
Our journey is prompted by words, by visual reminders, and above all by music, as we reflect on the events of the week.
Listen to and absorb the mood and feelings of the week with music from many traditions which seeks to place you in the picture, to transport you to the place and the time of Jesus; an opportunity to prepare for the events of Holy Week and perhaps to appreciate them from a different standpoint this year.

Spring Garden Working Party

Shallowford House has a wonderful 5 acres of gardens, meadow and woodland, but there’s too much for us to manage without some extra help from our friends and willing volunteers. On this Spring Garden Working Party we invite you to join us as we undertake some projects to get the grounds ready for the new growing season. There will be a variety of jobs to suit everyone, including planting, clearing and maintenance.
A suggested voluntary contribution is £10 per person per night towards accommodation costs. All meals and refreshments will be provided.
Just come for a day, or stay for the whole time!
We’ll be working in the day, and in the evening relaxing and spending some time in prayer and worship.

Acorn Christian Healing Foundation 'Listening for Life' course

‘Listening for Life’
Christian Listeners is an Acorn Christian Healing Foundation resource offering training in listening attitudes and skills through a variety of courses which are led by trained tutors. The course is open to anyone, though probably not appropriate for those recently bereaved or currently under extreme stress.
The sessions are practical and the group will be asked to explore some of their own concerns and experiences in twos or threes in an agreed confidential learning environment. The course will look at a three-dimensional way of listening ….
Listening to Others
- An awareness of the potential & power of good listening
- The skills of active listening – a particular approach developed by Acorn over many years
- An understanding of how such skills can be effective in everyday life: at home, work, community and church
Listening to Ourselves
- Learning to quieten ourselves before God
- Discovering our own natural listening patterns
- Growing in self-awareness, necessary for good listening
Listening to God
- Experiencing different ways of praying & listening to God: with the Bible, through meditation, reflection and silence
